Chapter 2

A first day with the Alphas

The next day, in the main den of the Alpha pack.

Yuty, Myth and Landsoul were resting in the den. Mostly, they were watching the new young wolf sleep. Landsoul was still thinking about last night. The young wolf had totally snuggled her, bringing a whole new meaning to the word cuddle. He had been soft and warm all night long. She never slept better in her whole life before. Suddenly, Yuty's voice got her out of her thoughts.

"Hey, look! I think he’s waking up!" Yuty said.

Wolpy opened his eyes to see who just spoke.

"Am I... Am I dead?" He asked weakly.

"He spoke!" Myth said.

"I heard it Myth." Landsoul replied.

Wolpy’s gaze moved from Myth to Yuty. They reminded him the three cubs of his pack, Vick, Dambiu and Patch. Then his gaze went on Landsoul and there, he was unable to believe his own eyes. He had in front of him the most beautiful, the most cheerful and the most charming she-wolf he met in his whole life. He couldn't believe it. The she-wolf he saw in his dreams was real. And she was standing here in front of him, watching him with her wonderful, curious purple eyes.

"Hel... Hello." He managed to say.

"Hi!" The two pups replied cheerfully in chorus.

Landsoul didn't answer right away. She looked straight into Wolpy's eyes. Her father told her one day that the eyes of a wolf reflected the personality of this wolf. In those eyes, she saw the charm, tenderness, compassion, kindness, ingenuity, determination to do well... In fact, according to what her father said, she saw the eyes of a future Alpha, always ready to help those who are in need.

"Hello." She finally replied in a whisper.

As she saw the stranger was staring at her, she blushed under her fur. The two cubs looked Landsoul, and then Wolpy, and realized it might be the time to let them alone.

"Well, well... we're going out." Yuty said before disappearing with his sister in the den's entrance.

"Who... Who are you?" Wolpy asked.

"Oh, I'm... My name is Landsoul." She replied, regaining her senses. "And you?"

"I... I'm Wolpy. And... where am I?"

"You're here in the main den of our pack. You're welcome on the Alphas territory." She welcomed him with a big smile.

"The Alphas?" Wolpy said, a bit lost in his memories.

"Yes, the Alpha pack! The best pack ever!" Landsoul said, full of pride.

Wolpy tried to get up, but he toggled and fell on the ground due to the exhaustion remaining in his muscles.

"Do you need something?" Landsoul asked, moving closer to him.

"I just want to get up." He replied, sighing as his own weakness.

Landsoul pressed herself on his side, so that he could take support on her.

"Thank you." He said after finally standing up on his four paws.

"You’re welcome." She replied, smiling. "When a wolf is sick in the pack, there is always someone around to help."

"Your pack sounds very different from the others. Tell me Landsoul, what makes your pack so different?" Wolpy asked trying to steady himself.

"Well, where to start? All of us are omegas originally."

"What?!"

"It's quite difficult to explain. It was my father who created this pack. With other omegas, he chose this land as their territory, and they established their pack. Then, as they needed a leader, they asked who wanted to be their leader. As none of the omegas wanted to lead the others, my father had a crazy, but unique idea. Why they wouldn't all become alphas. All the omegas accepted this idea and they trained all together, helping and supporting each other. Each one excelled in its skill. But they all chose the very best of the Alphas to lead them. They chose my father, because he was the wisest and most powerful of all the wolves of the pack. His wisdom allowed him to resolve any problems the pack might have. With time, more omegas joined the pack, others like you were found almost dead. And the pack welcomed them, protected them and trained them. They became alphas in their turn. Some of them left the pack to start their own lives elsewhere, and some stayed. Since some couples started to form, my father decided that all the cubs born in the pack will be born as omegas, and only when they will reach maturity, they will make some test in order to become alphas in their turn. And here is how our pack was born."

"Wouaah, I never thought that was possible!" Wolpy said.

"What?" Landsoul asked.

"I thought that when we are born as an omega, we stay like that for our whole life. I didn't think we could..."

"Evolve?"

"Yes, that's the word." Wolpy said.

"It works like that here." Landsoul said.

"And you, what are you?" Wolpy asked.

"Oh me, I'm still an omega. But in a few months now, I'll pass the tests, and I will become an alpha in my turn." She said proudly.

"Hmm" Wolpy mumbled thinking. "Tell me, do you think I'll be able to pass those tests too?"

"Of course you will! Since you arrived here, you're a member of the pack! You will pass the tests at the same time as me." Landsoul said full of enthusiasm.

"I am a member of the pack?" Wolpy said a little surprised to have nothing to do to be at this point.

"Oh yes, you're a member of the pack!" Alphy said, coming into the den.

"But I know almost nothing about hunting and being an alpha!" Wolpy replied, a little scared by the big black wolf.

"I see Landsoul already told you our history." Alphy said glancing at Landsoul. "Please Land, leaves us alone."

"But..." Landsoul interrupted herself seeing the harsh look of her father. "Alright Dad."

Wolpy was surprised. So it was him, the famous father of Landsoul, the wise master of the pack. Landsoul went out, leaving the big black wolf and the young yellow wolf alone.

"I know your new situation seems strange to you. Even this new pack seems strange to you." Alphy said. "So I let you the choice to stay here with us, or to go live your life alone."

"I thought I was already a member of the pack?" Wolpy said.

"In a way yes, but for me, you're different, and I feel obliged to give you the right to choose." Alphy said.

"I am always different. My old pack hated me because of my differences."

"In my pack, this is your differences which will make you a true Alpha. Come here take a look outside."

Wolpy limped to the entrance. He looked out of the den. Nine wolves were gathered in front of the den. He saw a very small she-wolf, almost as small as a fox; a wolf colored like a wildfire, his flames seemed to dance on his body when he moved; another brown and gray fat wolf; another who looked very excited, moving around every seconds; another who looked a lot like Yuty and a she-wolf who looked like Myth.

"Probably their parents." Wolpy thought.

And finally the two young cubs and Landsoul.

"You see? Here, all the wolves are different from each other." Alphy said.

"Yes, I see." Wolpy answered a bit absent.

Alphy noticed it in the way Wolpy spoke and he looked what Wolpy was staring at.

"Hahahaha! Tell me right now if you're interested in my daughter." Alphy said laughing.

Wolpy came out of his thoughts.

"Oh, forgive me." He replied blushing furiously.

"It doesn't matter. You know what, you just gave me an idea. Landsoul! Come here please!"

The young she-wolf approached.

"Yes, what do you want dad?" She asked.

"I'd like you to take Wolpy and show him the territory. Or should I say, his new territory. Oh, and show him the omegas den, he will sleep with you and the cubs."

"Alright Dad!" She replied cheerfully. "You follow me Wolpy?"

"I'm right behind you!" Wolpy replied.

The pain in his muscles almost disappeared on the moment. He felt something new in him. He felt himself reborn. He was just exiled from his original pack and another pack hurried to welcome him, and to show him he was at home. He was taking a new start. And this time, he had the luck to perhaps become a good wolf. He might even find love, who knows. A beautiful she-wolf who will accompany him until the end of this beautiful dream.

"And here is the den where omegas sleep. Specifically where we will sleep until we become alphas." Landsoul said.

"Cool." Wolpy replied with a smile.

"So, do you like your new life?" She asked.

"I don't know. I think it will take me a little time to get used to all of this, but right now, it's perfect." He replied.

"Don't worry, everything will be alright. We have the reputation to have never lost a single wolf in our history." She said.

"Ah, you reassure me." Wolpy said sarcastically.

"Tell me Wolpy, in your old pack, were there many young?" Landsoul asked suddenly.

"Hmm, there was my step brother Sansenite, I didn't like him a lot, and the feeling was mutual. There was also the three cubs Vick, Dambiu and Patch, the three terrors of the pack. And there was Dawnsoul. She was my best friend, and although the only one I really had."

"Well, this is strange, we have almost the same name, me and her." Landsoul said.

"If you knew her, I'm sure you'd be great friends." Wolpy said.

"You might have noticed it, before your arrival, I was the only young of my age in the pack. Every time I was stuck with the pups, unable to really talk to someone of the same age than me. But now that you're here, the days will be more cool!" She said cheerfully.

"I hope so too. I was often alone in my pack. I often kept the three pups, like you guard Yuty and Myth, and the days were sometimes boring to death!" Wolpy said a little sarcastically. "At least now we're two to watch over those two there. They look like to be really crafty!"

"Nah, they're lovely. With a bit of character certainly, but very sweet." Landsoul said.

"We all tell that about them, but after a while, they become annoying." Wolpy replied.

"Well, for me, when I'll become an alpha, I’d like to have lots of pups!" Landsoul said.

This made Wolpy panic, and he quickly changed the subject.

"Tell me, the weather is always good all the time here?"

Landsoul didn't understand why he changed the subject like that. But she noticed his embarrassment toward the pups subject.

"Well, there are severe snowstorms in the winter, and the climate is fairly cool all year." She said. "But I don't believe the weather will prevent me from making puppies." She added to get back on the subject.

At this moment, Myth and Yuty came running and shouting to the place in front of the den where Wolpy and Landsoul were standing.

"Help us!! She wants us to take a bath!"

"Come here you two!" Zara shouted running after them.

"You see, that's what I said." Wolpy said to Landsoul.

"Catch Yuty and I catch Myth." Landsoul said.

"Okay." He sighed.

Landsoul caught Myth when she passed close to her.

"Gotcha!" Landsoul said.

"Ah nooo!!" Myth yelled.

"Ah, you'll never catch me!" Yuty shouted, moving fast away from his mother and Landsoul.

But suddenly something grabbed him by the neck and sent him flying in the air. Yuty didn't understand what happened to him until he landed on Wolpy's back.

"Gotcha!" Wolpy said with a mischievous smirk.

Yuty laughed, and Wolpy did the same.

"This is probably the most impressive thing anyone did to me since I know how to walk!" Yuty said after a strong laugh.

"Come on, enough laughs! We must join the others."

"Oh no, Wolpy, have mercy, I don't want to go in the water!" Yuty said taking a sad puppy face.

"You're cleaned into water?" Wolpy asked surprised.

"Heck yeah! Why, there is another way to be cleaned?"

"Oh yes. From where I come from, to wash the pups, the mothers lick them until they are all clean." Wolpy said.

"What!! But this is horrible!"

"And I don't mention you the smell of gamy meat you take when your mother just ate." Wolpy added.

"Yuck! This is disgusting!" Yuty said imagining the scene.

"So you see how lucky you are to be cleaned into water." Wolpy said.

They finally joined Landsoul, Zara and Myth. Myth was complaining that she didn't like water. Yuty came down from Wolpy's back and said:

"Come on, let's go! We do it quickly and like that, we can quickly come back to play."

Zara was surprised to hear that from the mouth of her son. Landsoul too and she asked to Wolpy:

"How did you do to change his mind?"

"Oh, it's an old trick from my old home." Wolpy answered, taking a mischievous grin.

"In fact, if we all take a bath, it would relax everyone a bit, no?" Zara suggested.

"I agree, let's go!" Wolpy replied.

When he passed near the two cubs, Wolpy took them in his mouth and threw them on his back. This time, it was Myth's turn to be amazed and Yuty laughed again. He found this way of traveling very relaxing. Zara and Landsoul laughed seeing the three wolves together.

A quarter hour later, they finally reached the small pond. A small waterway that came out of an underground river had formed that small pond with water accumulation. Wolpy let the two cubs come down from his back and dipped a paw into the water to see if it was at a good temperature.

"Hmm, it's good!" He said.

Yuty rushed into the water. Myth for her part, stayed on the shore and looked her brother swim.

"Oh come on Myth, go swim with your brother." Landsoul said.

"I don't like water!" She grumbled.

"Myth, go in the water!" Zara said sternly.

Suddenly, Wolpy took her by the skin of her neck.

"Come on, no story. Hop!"

And he sent Myth in the middle of the pond. Yuty laughed seeing Myth’s head come up to the surface and swim to the shore. Once on the shore, she shook herself, and after this, her fur made her look three times her size. Zara and Landsoul laughed while Wolpy came to her.

"Although I've never been an example, you must always obey to your mother, especially for bath time."

"It was... fun!" Myth said to Wolpy’s big surprise. "Can we do it again?"

"As you wish." Wolpy answered, taking her again by the scruff of her neck.

And he sent her even higher than the first time.

"YAAAAOUUUUH!" Myth yelled.

She fell in a big splash in the middle of the pond.

"Can I try it too?!" Yuty asked leaving the water and rushing to Wolpy.

"Okay, come here." Wolpy said, taking a mischievous look.

He took Yuty in his mouth, but instead of sending him into the water, he ran and jumped in the middle of the pond, creating a big wave that brought Myth back on the shore. Landsoul jumped into the water too, and Zara did the same.

After having fun for half an hour to splash each other, Zara thought it was time to get back to the den for the night.

"Oh no mommy! Still a little bit!" Myth and Yuty said in chorus.

"Come on young, when it's time to go, there is no story, we go." Landsoul said.

The five wolves shook themselves and began to head back to their lair. Once there, Wolpy, Landsoul, Myth and Yuty told goodbye to Zara, and as the sun was already low above the horizon, they decided to go to sleep immediately.

"Can we do a game?" Yuty asked yawning.

"No, it's time to sleep." Landsoul said. "How do we do Wolpy? You take Yuty and you go sleep on your side and I sleep with Myth, or we all sleep together?"

"I think it's better if we all sleep together." Myth suggested.

"I agree with Myth." Wolpy answered. "The nights must be quite cold here. All together, we will warm up more easily."

"Very well." Landsoul said laying down.

Myth came and pressed Landsoul's cheek, nice and warm. Wolpy laid down next Landsoul, pressed against her and Yuty came under Wolpy's neck, that way he was almost fully covered with fur. And this is how they all slept together in this quiet and peaceful autumn night.

In the den's entrance, Alphy watched them sleep.

"So Alphy. You really want to send him back home?" A female voice asked outside of the cave.

"I've changed my mind Snow." The big black wolf replied, leaving the entrance of the den. "It's his choice. And if he wants to stay, he will stay."

"You take wise decisions. But he isn't ready yet to hear the truth about his mother." Snow said.

Alphy sighed.

"But one day, we’ll have to tell him what really happened. And that day may come much earlier than we think."
